The Republic (Cumhuriyet) (translated)

Cumhuriyet (The Republic) is a 1998 Turkish historical film directed by Ziya Öztan and written by Turgut Özakman. Produced by TRT, it ranks among the most expensive Turkish productions of its era and functions as a continuation of the Kurtuluş series, which depicted the Turkish War of Independence. Spanning the years from the Mudanya Armistice to the mid-1930s, the film portrays such turning points as the abolition of the sultanate, the Treaty of Lausanne, the proclamation of the Republic, and the implementation of Atatürk's reforms.

The narrative follows both the political struggle and the private life of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, tracing the founding years of the new Turkey along these two lines. Rutkay Aziz plays Atatürk, with Dolunay Soysert as Latife Hanım and Savaş Dinçel as İsmet İnönü, while the cast also includes Ayda Aksel, Murat Daltaban, Hülya Aksular, and Macide Tanır. The film's DVD release is organized into five parts based on its main events.
