Macide Tanır — Biography
Macide Tanır (1 January 1922 – 6 February 2013, Istanbul) was a Turkish stage, film and television actress. After attending Erenköy Girls' High School, she trained in the theatre and opera departments of the Ankara State Conservatory.
She joined the Turkish State Theatres in 1943 and remained on stage until 1985, playing leading roles in more than fifty works of world dramatic literature. Television audiences knew her above all as Şehnaz's mother in the series "Şehnaz Tango". Her film roles included Yer Demir Gök Bakır (1987), Yengeç Sepeti (1994) and Cumhuriyet (1998), and she was also active as a voice actress.
Named a State Artist in 1991, she published her memoirs under the title "Tiyatronun Cadısı". She died of respiratory failure in Istanbul on 6 February 2013 and was buried in Zincirlikuyu Cemetery.
