Murat Daltaban — Biography

Murat İsmail Rauf Daltaban was born on 5 May 1966 in Ankara. He studied Mining Engineering at METU for a time before switching to the Theatre Department of Ankara University's Faculty of Languages, History and Geography, graduating in 1992, and then spent fourteen years on stage at the Istanbul City Theatres from 1993. He first appeared on screen in Babam Askerde (1994), and won the Best Supporting Actor award at the Sadri Alışık Awards for playing the Armenian clarinetist Artin in Salkım Hanımın Taneleri (1999). He raised his profile further with the roles of Kanber in Kınalı Kar (2002) and Ali Rıza in Hırsız Polis (2005); after appearing in productions such as Menekşe ile Halil, Fatmagül'ün Suçu Ne?, Ağır Roman, Şubat and Eski Hikaye, he played Mümtaz in Poyraz Karayel in 2015, later appeared in Kanunsuz Topraklar and Duy Beni, and left the series Bir Zamanlar İstanbul in 2025.

Daltaban is married to actress Özlem Daltaban, with whom he has a son named Arda Kuzgun; in 2005 he founded Istanbul's DOT Tiyatro together with his wife and Süha Bilal, serving as its artistic director. The company won numerous honours, including a year's-best award from the International Association of Theatre Critics, and his production of Rhinoceros was staged at the Edinburgh International Theatre Festival in 2017. In 2021 he became general artistic director of the Nilüfer Kent Tiyatrosu in Bursa.
