Trees Die Standing (Ağaçlar Ayakta Ölür) (translated)

Ağaçlar Ayakta Ölür ("Trees Die Standing") is a 1964 Turkish film directed by Memduh Ün, with a screenplay by Atıf Yılmaz, Memduh Ün and Safa Önal adapted from Spanish playwright Alejandro Casona's 1949 play "Los árboles mueren de pie." The cast is led by Yıldız Kenter, Hulusi Kentmen, İzzet Günay and Semra Sar.

The story follows an elderly woman grieving the disappearance of her grandson years earlier; to spare her the pain, her husband has secretly been writing letters in the grandson's name, and when word arrives that the "grandson" is finally coming home, a stand-in has to be found to keep up the deception. The film won the awards for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actress at the 1964 Golden Orange Film Festival.
