Son (Oğul) (translated)
Melih Gülgen directed the 1974 Turkish film Oğul ("Son") and produced it through his company Gülgen Film; it opened in cinemas on 1 March 1975. It was shot in colour. Nurettin Erişen wrote the screenplay, Yalçın Tura composed the music and Mustafa Yılmaz was the cinematographer. The film builds a story set in the countryside around village life, a parent's grief and the urge for revenge.
Alişan (Cüneyt Arkın) lives a quiet life in his village with his small son Aliş (Kahraman Kıral). When Aliş tries to drink from the fountain in the village square, a group of men stop him and set a dog on him before running off. Alişan fears the boy has contracted rabies and tries to take him to the city for treatment, while the men who set the dog on him are on their trail. When the symptoms appear, the father is forced into a terrible decision, and afterwards only revenge for his son is left to him.
Kâzım Kartal plays Cabbar, Reha Yurdakul the village landlord, Nizam Ergüden Sülo and Kadir Kök Keltoş; various actors play the landlord's men. Ören Film handled preparation and Yıldız Film the dubbing.
