Judith Magre — Biography

Judith Magre is one of the longest-serving actresses of French theatre and cinema. Born Simone Dupuis, she has been active since 1948; her stage work earned her three Molière Awards and the rank of Officer in France's National Order of Merit. She kept appearing before the camera well into her nineties.

She studied at the Cours Simon and at the Faculty of Arts in Paris. Her first film work dates from the early 1950s, in titles such as Les Dents longues (1952), Capitaine Pantoufle (1953), Napoléon (1955), Une parisienne (1957) and Montparnasse 19 (1958). She went on working through the following decades, among them Woman Times Seven (1967), Le Voyou (1970), Rat Race (1980) and Nathalie... (2003), where she was in the same cast as Fanny Ardant. Her filmography also includes Le Chat et la souris (1975), L'enfance de l'art (1988), Montparnasse-Pondichéry (1993) and Au fil d'Ariane (2014). On television she took part in the series John Adams (2008).

In the theatre she won the Molière Award for Best Actress twice and for Best Supporting Actress once. Late films including Tout s'est bien passé (2021, released in Turkey as Her Şey Yolunda) and Elle (2016, O Kadın in Turkey) brought her to a newer generation of viewers. She has also worked as a singer from time to time.
