Ekrem Dümer — Biography
Ekrem Dümer was born on 15 October 1928 in Istanbul. After gaining amateur stage experience at the people's houses (halkevleri) between 1937 and 1947, he made his professional theatre debut in 1947 with the Sadi Tek Theatre, and went on to perform with the Tevhid Bilge and Aziz Basmacı troupes.
Dividing his long career between stage and screen, Dümer became one of Yeşilçam's dependable character actors, appearing in dozens of productions including Fadime, Kanlı Para, Acı Hayat, Kin, Şafakta Buluşalım, İnsanları Seveceksin, Canikom and Kanun Gücü. He also appeared in several of Kemal Sunal's popular comedies, among them Gerzek Şaban, where he was remembered for his supporting roles.
His son, Yalçın Dümer, went on to become one of Yeşilçam's well-known leading men despite his father's early reservations about the profession. Ekrem Dümer died in Istanbul on 9 March 2000.
