Muammer Gözalan — Biography
Muammer Gözalan (March 23, 1905, Istanbul - November 21, 1981, Istanbul) was a Turkish theatre and film actor. Born into a family from Istanbul's Eyüp district, he worked for years as a branch manager at the Turkish State Railways alongside his acting career before retiring in the 1960s.
Appearing in more than three hundred films, Gözalan built a long career as a supporting and character actor, frequently cast as authority figures such as judges, doctors, police commissioners and chiefs of police. Active from the 1950s through the late 1970s, one of Turkish cinema's most prolific eras, he took roles in productions including "Beni Mahvettiler" (1951), "Yakut Gözlü Kedi" (1966), "Adını Anmayacağım" (1971), "Küçük Sevgilim" (1971), "Dert Bende" (1973) and "Hedef" (1979).
His wife, Ayşe Nigar, who performed under the stage name Hülya Gözalan, was also a stage actress; she began her career at the Darülbedayi and went on to spend many years with the Istanbul City Theatres. Muammer Gözalan died in Istanbul on November 21, 1981.
