The Broken Landlord (Züğürt Ağa)

Züğürt Ağa (The Broken Landlord) is a 1985 Turkish film directed by Nesli Çölgeçen from a screenplay by Yavuz Turgul. Produced by Kadri Yurdatap with a score by Attila Özdemiroğlu, it blends comedy and drama and is regarded as a classic of Turkish cinema.

The story follows the downfall of the proud landowner of Haraptar village. His father's death on his wedding night sets off a chain of misfortunes: the villagers cheat him out of his goods, and drought forces him to sell his lands to profit-hungry politicians before fleeing to the big city. Unable to adapt his once-grand ways to metropolitan life, the agha is abandoned by everyone, including his wife—everyone except the loyal Kiraz. Şener Şen stars, supported by Erdal Özyağcılar, Füsun Demirel and Nilgün Nazlı.
