Murderous City (Öldüren Şehir)
Öldüren Şehir ("The Killing City") is a 1953 Turkish film directed by Ömer Lütfi Akad, one of the leading figures of Yeşilçam cinema, and produced by Kemal Film. The story follows Selma (Belgin Doruk), an eighteen-year-old living with her hard-drinking sea-captain father and her nagging mother in a poor neighborhood by the Golden Horn, and her fiancé Ali (Ayhan Işık), a foreman at a workshop.
After Ali is arrested for shooting a man during a fight at a neighborhood coffeehouse, Selma is drawn to the glittering streets of Beyoğlu and moves in with a friend who works at a nightclub, where she takes a job herself; her growing closeness with the club's owner, Şevket, provokes her friend's jealousy. Once released from prison, Ali rescues Selma from this world and the couple return together to their old neighborhood. Nubar Terziyan (as Osman) and Kenan Pars (as Kenan) round out the cast.
