Ayhan Işık — Biography
Born Ayhan Işıyan on 5 May 1929 in İzmir, he died on 16 June 1979 in Istanbul. After training as a painter at the Academy of Fine Arts, he briefly worked as an illustrator in Istanbul's Bab-ı Ali publishing district before a magazine talent contest steered him toward filmmaking; his debut came with Yavuz Sultan Selim ve Yeniçeri Hasan. He quickly rose to become one of the foundational stars of Turkish cinema, widely regarded as among the most popular leading men of the 1950s and 1960s, earning the nickname "Taçsız Kral" (the Uncrowned King). Beyond acting he also worked as a producer, director and screenwriter, lent his voice to dubbing work, and kept painting throughout his life. Over roughly three decades he built a large filmography spanning action, drama and comedy roles.
