My Prostitute Love (Vesikalı Yarim)

Vesikalı Yarim is a black-and-white Turkish drama directed by Ömer Lütfi Akad and released in 1968. Screenwriter Safa Önal adapted the script from "Menekşeli Vadi," a short story by Sait Faik Abasıyanık included in his book "Lüzumsuz Adam," while the film's title was drawn from a poem by Orhan Veli.

At its center is a forbidden romance between Sabiha (Türkân Şoray), a singer at a Beyoğlu nightclub, and Halil (İzzet Günay), a working-class greengrocer, whose relationship is tested by jealousy and violence before ending on a bittersweet note.

Praised chiefly for Türkân Şoray's performance, the film won the awards for best second film and best actress at the 1968 Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, and in a 2015 poll by the Turkish Film Critics Association it was ranked among the five greatest films in Turkish cinema history.
