Kızılırmak-Karakoyun

Movie · 1967 · 3 people

Kızılırmak-Karakoyun is a 1967 Turkish film written and directed by Ömer Lütfi Akad. It is classed as a drama and a romance, and over roughly 79 minutes it tells a love story set inside village life. Yılmaz Güney plays the lead, the shepherd Ali Haydar, and Kadir Savun and Osman Alyanak are also in the cast.

The story unfolds in an Anatolian village where poverty and money decide everything. Ali Haydar is wildly in love with Hatice, the beautiful daughter of the cash-strapped village landlord Hüseyin Ağa, and she returns his feelings. Wealth and social standing stand between them, though, since a landlord's daughter cannot marry a shepherd. When Hüseyin Ağa decides to marry Hatice off to a well-off villager named Ahmet, Ali Haydar refuses to give up. A hastily convened village court sets him a task that is almost impossible to accomplish, and only by completing it can he win Hatice.
