Movie · 2012 · 4 people

Mold is a 2012 Turkish-German drama film written and directed by Ali Aydın in his feature debut. It had its world premiere in the International Film Critics' Week sidebar of the 69th Venice Film Festival, where it won the Lion of the Future award; Italian director Nanni Moretti saw the film there and had it picked up by his independent distribution company Sacher Film. The film went on to receive the Silver Alexander at the Thessaloniki Film Festival and the Golden Apple at the Frankfurt Turkish Film Festival.

At the heart of the story is Basri, a railroad track watchman who leads a solitary life. His only son Seyfi was detained as a university student eighteen years earlier and has not been heard from since; six years after the disappearance, Basri's wife also passed away. Withdrawing increasingly from society, Basri never loses hope that his son will return, writing petitions to the authorities every month for eighteen years. Ercan Kesal stars as Basri, joined by Muhammet Uzuner and Tansu Biçer.
