In the Shadows

In the Shadows (original title: Im Schatten) is a 2010 German crime film written and directed by Thomas Arslan. The film premiered at the 2010 Berlin International Film Festival and was released in German theatres on 7 October 2010. Running 85 minutes, its laconic narrative style has drawn comparisons to the stylised gangster ballads of Jean-Pierre Melville.

The story follows Trojan, freshly released from prison, who demands his share from his former accomplice Richard Bauer, only to be fobbed off with a small sum and pursued by hitmen. In need of money, Trojan learns through the lawyer Dora Hillmann of a plan to rob a cash transit van and persuades his old friend Nico to join. Meanwhile police officer René Meyer, himself involved in drug dealing, uncovers the scheme by surveilling the pair. The cast includes Mišel Matičević, Karoline Eichhorn, Uwe Bohm and Rainer Bock, alongside David Scheller and Hanns Zischler.
