Beloved in the Skies (Göklerdeki Sevgili) (translated)

Göklerdeki Sevgili (Beloved in the Skies) is a black-and-white Turkish film released in 1966, written and directed by Remzi Jöntürk. Made by Duru Film with Süreyya Duru producing and Mahmut Demir behind the camera, it blends wartime drama with romantic melodrama.

The story begins in the autumn of 1963. Timur Karaşah, an air force lieutenant sent from the Diyarbakır air base to Bandırma for a flying display, meets Yıldız, the daughter of Tahir the potter, at a stream on the path she takes to bring her father his lunch. Within days the two have fallen for one another, and a storm on the ride back to the village forces them to shelter in a cave; after that night what began for Timur as a flirtation becomes something he takes seriously.

Orders for a secret mission arrive the following day and he has to leave without a word. His mother Piraye, who will not accept a village girl, tears up the letter he wrote to Yıldız and later tells him the girl has married a waiter. Believing he has been abandoned, Timur joins the Turkish Cypriot fighters on the island, where he is gravely wounded in combat and earns the nickname Karaşahin — while Yıldız, back home, is pregnant. He recovers over the following weeks, returns to the mainland, and the two are reunited.

Cüneyt Arkın plays Timur and Selda Alkor plays Yıldız, with Ulvi Uraz as her father Tahir and Ali Şen as Timur's father Veysel. Kazım Kartal, Ersun Kazançel and Figen Han also appear.
