Ulvi Uraz — Biography

Ulvi Uraz (13 February 1921, Istanbul – 25 May 1974, Istanbul) was a Turkish theatre and film actor who also worked as a director, trained at the Ankara University State Conservatory. As a young man he traveled to France together with S. Uraz; upon his return he was tried and imprisoned for a period, after which he resumed his artistic life by teaching at the conservatory.

He appeared with the Dormen Theatre company in 1958 and, in 1961–1962, founded his own troupe, Dost Oyuncuları, through which he helped train many well-known names in Turkish theatre. On screen, he took roles in dozens of films between 1959 and 1966, including The Tobacco Season (Tütün Zamanı, 1959) and Göklerdeki Sevgili (1966), and also appeared in the 1963 French production L'Immortelle. He won the "İlhan İskender" award three times and received a prize at the Antalya Film Festival for the film Denize İnen Sokak.
