Sour Apples (Ekşi Elmalar) (translated)

Sour Apples (Ekşi Elmalar) is a 2016 Turkish dramatic comedy written and directed by Yılmaz Erdoğan, who also stars as Aziz Özay, a stern provincial mayor. Produced by BKM and shot in the Köyceğiz, Ortaca, and Marmaris districts of Muğla, the film held its Istanbul gala on October 27, 2016, before opening in cinemas the following day. It marked Erdoğan's sixth feature as writer-director and, like his earlier work, draws on a family story rooted in real experience.

The narrative begins in the late 1970s in a house set among orchards in Hakkari and stretches to Antalya by the end of the 1990s. It follows Özay, his wife Ayda, and their three beautiful daughters of marriageable age — Muazzez, Türkan, and Safiye — whose many suitors test their protective father. Farah Zeynep Abdullah, Şükran Ovalı, and Songül Öden lead the cast alongside Şükrü Özyıldız, Fatih Artman, Ersin Korkut, Caner Cindoruk, and Cezmi Baskın; the three lead actresses shared a Special Jury Award at the 22nd Sadri Alışık Awards.
