Copilot

Copilot (German title Die Welt wird eine andere sein, French title Ce qui reste) is a 2021 German-French-Lebanese drama film directed by Anne Zohra Berrached. It follows Asli, a German-Turkish student who meets the charismatic Lebanese medical student Saeed at a dorm party and secretly marries him against her mother's wishes. Told from the woman's subjective viewpoint in five chapters spanning five years, the story charts how Saeed's growing radicalization strains the marriage and ultimately leads to a catastrophe of global scale. Berrached worked intuitively, allowing much improvisation to achieve authenticity from her actors. Loosely inspired by the biography of 9/11 hijacker Ziad Jarrah without naming him directly, the film screened at the 71st Berlin International Film Festival and opened in German cinemas in August 2021. Canan Kir and Roger Azar star, with Özay Fecht in the cast.
