35 Shots of Rum (original title: 35 Rhums) is a 2008 French-German drama film directed by Claire Denis, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jean-Pol Fargeau. It premiered out of competition at the Venice Film Festival in August 2008, before opening in France in February 2009 and in Germany that March. Alex Descas, Mati Diop, Nicole Dogue and Grégoire Colin lead the cast, with music by the English band Tindersticks.

Strongly inspired by the films of Yasujirō Ozu, this intimate story is set among the Antillean community of the Paris suburbs and follows Lionel, a widowed father, and his daughter Joséphine, whose deep bond has shaped their quiet life together. As neighbors Gabrielle and Noé draw closer to the pair, their shared equilibrium gradually shifts, and Lionel must accept that his daughter needs to build a life of her own. The film was particularly well received by critics, especially abroad.
