Nenette and Boni

Nenette and Boni (original title: Nénette et Boni) is a 1996 French drama film directed by Claire Denis, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jean-Pol Fargeau. Set in Marseille, the story follows Boni, who sells pizza for a living after his mother's death while nursing obsessive fantasies about a local baker, and his estranged younger sister Nénette, who turns up pregnant and moves into his home. When it proves too late for an abortion, Boni reluctantly accompanies his sister to doctor's appointments and gradually warms to the idea of becoming an uncle, while Nénette considers giving the baby up for adoption after birth.

The film had its world premiere at the Locarno Festival on 12 August 1996, where it won the Golden Leopard, and opened in France on 29 January 1997. The 103-minute film features music by Tindersticks and stars Grégoire Colin, Valeria Bruni-Tedeschi and Vincent Gallo.
