Bülent Polat — Biography
Bülent Polat, a Turkish actor of Zaza descent, was born on 8 March 1979 in Tunceli; after his older brother was admitted to Istanbul University's law faculty, the family moved to Istanbul in 1987, where he finished school. He began volunteering at Bakırköy Municipal Theatre in 1992, took his first roles in Yer Gösterme and Sokak Kedisi in 1993, then appeared in Ormanların Barış Ateşi and Keloğlan while training at the Müjdat Gezen Art Center. He moved to the screen in Yılan Hikayesi and Orhan Oğuz's TV film Son Oyun, then after sketches on Gece Kahvesi and Okan Bayülgen's Zaga with Engin Günaydın, found real fame as Şehsuvar (Şesu) in Gülse Birsel's Avrupa Yakası for three and a half years. He then paused acting to train under Stella Adler in Los Angeles and later New York, running a Manhattan bar to support himself before returning to Turkey in 2011. Roles in Behzat Ç., Karagül, Kertenkele: Yeniden Doğuş and Çukur followed, then wide acclaim as Gaffur Taşkın in Bir Zamanlar Çukurova and later parts in Kuruluş Osman, Siyah Kalp and Teşkilat. He married Duygu Şenoğlu in 2015 and has two children, Doğa and Doğu, and in 2026 left Istanbul to build a life without electricity or phone service in a Çanakkale village with his family.
