Kubilay Tunçer — Biography

Kubilay Tunçer is a Turkish actor, playwright, screenwriter, stage magician, and academic, born on 12 June 1969 in Balıkesir. He earned an undergraduate degree in psychology from the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at METU and began, but did not finish, a master's degree in philosophy of science there; he currently teaches in the MBA program at Istanbul Bilgi University. After beginning his acting career in the early 2000s, he appeared in Abdullah Oğuz's film Happiness and went on to roles in Nuri Bilge Ceylan's Once Upon a Time in Anatolia (2011) and The Wild Pear Tree (2018), along with roles in Drawers, A Tale of Three Sisters, the series Hot Skull, and Empire of the Rabbits. His play Ordinary Miracles won him the Afife Jale Best Writer Award in 2003. In 2009 the International Magicians Society named him the first Turkish artist to receive its Merlin Award, an honor previously given to magicians such as David Copperfield and Criss Angel.
