Ayşenil Şamlıoğlu — Biography

Ayşenil Şamlıoğlu was born on 20 March 1956 in Istanbul. In 1974 she enrolled in the School of Journalism and Public Relations at Istanbul University, but left her studies and moved to Frankfurt, where she worked with amateur theatre groups. After returning to Turkey she graduated from the Theatre Department of the Hacettepe University Ankara State Conservatory, and in 1982 she began working at the Adana State Theatre as an actress and assistant director.

On television she became known with the series Ferhunde Hanımlar and Bizim Evin Halleri; her character Hafize in the series Yol Arkadaşım reached wide audiences. She appeared in series such as Avrupa Yakası, Kötü Yol, Kocamın Ailesi, Tatlı İntikam, Jet Sosyete and Menajerimi Ara, and in films such as Aşk, Büyü vs., Aydede and Niyazi Gül Dörtnala.

The artist, who won awards for the plays she directed, served as General Artistic Director of the Istanbul City Theatres between 2009 and 2012. Her work Kaçıklık Diploması was adapted for the cinema by Tunç Başaran.
