Çağlar Çorumlu — Biography

Çağlar Çorumlu was born on 4 December 1977 in the Merzifon district of Amasya to parents who were both teachers; after finishing Merzifon High School in 1994 he settled in Eskişehir, where studying tourism and hotel management at Anadolu University he joined the student theatre club and, with encouragement from its director Tolga Evren, discovered a talent for acting. He moved to Istanbul in 2000, trained for a year at the Müjdat Gezen Art Center's actor studio, made his professional stage debut at Cabaret Taksim, and played Yusuf Güdük in the spin-off series Yedi Numara. He joined the Istanbul City Theatres in 2007, worked there for six years, and in 2013 founded his own company, TiyatrOPS, the same year he won an Afife Theatre Award for his role in Oriental Dentist. Alongside comedy he showed a dramatic range in Zeki Demirkubuz's films Kader, Bulantı and Kor and in Ferzan Özpetek's Cebimdeki Yabancı. His characters Şevket Hoca in Güldür Güldür Show and Yaşar in Jet Sosyete brought successive Golden Butterfly awards, and he was named Comedy Actor of the Year at GQ Turkey's 2022 Men of the Year event and won another Golden Butterfly in 2023 for Ayak İşleri. He married Gaye Çorumlu in 2012, and they have a son, Ali Emre.
