The Bride Wore Black (Siyah Gelinlik)

The Bride Wore Black is a 1968 French-Italian psychological thriller directed by François Truffaut, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jean-Louis Richard. It is adapted from Cornell Woolrich's 1940 novel of the same name, published under his pseudonym William Irish.

The story follows Julie Kohler, a woman whose husband is shot dead on their wedding day by five men. She vows to track down each of the killers one by one and exact her revenge, dressing only in black, white, or a mix of the two throughout her hunt. Jeanne Moreau stars as Julie, alongside Michel Bouquet, Jean-Claude Brialy, Charles Denner, Claude Rich, Michael Lonsdale and Alexandra Stewart.

A noted admirer of Alfred Hitchcock, Truffaut hired Hitchcock's frequent collaborator Bernard Herrmann to compose the score, while Pierre Cardin designed the costumes. The film's revenge premise is often cited as an inspiration for Quentin Tarantino's Kill Bill.
