Between Borders (Sınırlar Arasında) (translated)

Between Borders is a Turkish documentary program prepared and presented by journalist Banu Avar, who also directed and wrote it. Airing every two weeks on TRT, it stood out as the only Turkish television program actively produced by a female journalist. Traveling to different countries around the world, the program portrayed the situation of Turks living there along with the social and political conditions of the countries visited, drawing particular attention with episodes filmed in Turkic republics and developing countries.

Featuring interviews with politicians such as Vasili Tarlev, Kurmanbek Bakiyev, Rauf Denktaş, and Mintimer Şeymiyev, the program also stirred controversy: an episode about the wall in Palestine drew reactions from Israeli authorities, and some episodes were censored. Avar's stance was described by some as anti-imperialist and by others as ultra-nationalist. On May 20, 2008, TRT removed the program from the air citing a broadcast schedule change; Avar called the decision censorship based on content, and TÜMÖD launched a signature campaign in protest. Drawing on the program, Avar published the book Which Europe? in 2007.
