Wrestler (Pehlivan) (translated)
Pehlivan is a 1984 Turkish sports drama directed by Zeki Ökten from a screenplay by Fehmi Yaşar, and produced by Şeref Film. Its protagonist Bilal works various jobs to support his wife, two children, and elderly father while dreaming of going to Libya as a laborer. While waiting for his turn, he is persuaded by the wrestling announcer Mestan to take up oil wrestling, his father's profession. Convinced that winning the Kırkpınar championship would bring him the grand prize and a better life, he trains with the help of Mestan and his master Tevfik, and each victory fuels his dreams of wealth.
The film stars Tarık Akan and Yaman Okay, and it was entered into the 35th Berlin International Film Festival, where Akan received an Honourable Mention.
