The Epic of Ali of Keşan (Keşanlı Ali Destanı) (translated)
The Epic of Ali of Keşan is a 1964 Turkish film directed by Atıf Yılmaz, adapted for the screen from Haldun Taner's stage play of the same name, on which the screenplay is also based. The film was produced by Memduh Ün.
Set in the shantytown neighborhoods of Istanbul, the story uses the folk-hero figure of Keşanlı Ali to portray neighborhood life, love and social relations with humor. Starring Fikret Hakan and Fatma Girik, the film received directing and leading acting awards at the Antalya Film Festival, standing as a respected screen adaptation of Taner's theatrical work.
