Orhan Elmas — Biography

Orhan Elmas (January 20, 1927, Istanbul – April 26, 2002, Istanbul) was a Turkish director, screenwriter, and actor who studied at the Istanbul State Academy of Fine Arts and worked for a time as a magazine illustrator and journalist before turning to cinema. He entered filmmaking with Toros Çocuğu in 1946 and directed for the first time in 1954.

Over a career spanning more than four decades, Elmas worked on 138 films and television productions; he directed titles such as Kanlı Para (1972), Hedef (1979), and Süpermenler (1979). As an actor he also appeared in numerous Yeşilçam films, including Bir Bahar Akşamı (1961), Topal (1973), Yüz Numaralı Adam (1978), İnek Şaban (1978), Ayağında Kundura (1978), and Kavgamız (1990).

Married to Alev Koral, Elmas died in Istanbul on April 26, 2002.
