Sami Hazinses — Biography

Sami Hazinses, whose legal name was Samuel Agop Uluçyan, was born on August 30, 1925, in Diyarbakır. After finishing primary school he moved to Istanbul to work, and began his film career in 1953 in Kara Davut, directed by Mahir Canova and starring Cüneyt Gökçer and Atıf Kaptan.

One of the most prolific character actors of the Yeşilçam era, Hazinses appeared in more than 330 films and television productions, typically playing supporting roles that received little screen credit yet left a lasting impression on audiences. Beyond acting, he was also known as a composer and lyricist. His Turkish Armenian heritage was reportedly kept largely private during his lifetime and only became widely discussed years later.

Hazinses died in Istanbul on August 23, 2002, and remains remembered as one of the unforgettable character actors of Turkish cinema history.
