Egg (Yumurta)

Egg (Yumurta) is a 2007 Turkish-Greek drama film directed by Semih Kaplanoğlu, who co-wrote the screenplay with Orçun Köksal. It is the first instalment of the Yusuf Trilogy — named after its lead character and completed by Milk and Honey — which was filmed and released in reverse chronological order, with the final film Honey depicting Yusuf's childhood. The film was shown in the Directors' Fortnight section of the 60th Cannes Film Festival and opened in Turkish cinemas on 9 November 2007.

Yusuf, a poet who left his small town for Istanbul fifteen years earlier, is trapped in an identity crisis, his poetry book ignored by everyone but himself. News of his mother's death draws him back to his hometown, filmed in Tire, İzmir, where he finds more than he was looking for. Nejat İşler and Saadet Işıl Aksoy star, alongside Ufuk Bayraktar, Cengiz Bozkurt, Tülin Özen and Gülçin Santırcıoğlu.
