The Mad Woman (Çıldıran Kadın) (translated)

Çıldıran Kadın (The Mad Woman) is a 1948 black-and-white Turkish drama directed by Baha Gelenbevi. Adapted from Vedat Örfi Bengü's novel Bir Yuva Böyle Yıkıldı, with the screenplay also written by Bengü, the film was produced by İskender Necef for Birlik Film. The story follows two friends who love the same woman; after one of them marries her, her infidelity drives the husband, an engineer, to wound his wife and kill his close friend, destroying the family. Kriton İlyadis served as cinematographer, with music by Sadi Işılay and Muhittin Sadak, and the film runs about 93 minutes.

The picture holds a special place in Turkish film history as the first production in which colour was experimented with. Its cast includes Reşit Gürzap and Hulusi Kentmen alongside Nezihe Becerikli, Hadi Hün, Feridun Çölgeçen, Ertuğrul Bilda and Kadri Ögelman.
