Hüseyin Peyda — Biography

Born Hüseyin Örmen, Hüseyin Peyda was born on 27 January 1919 in Şanlıurfa and died on 30 July 1990 in Istanbul; he graduated from the Department of Philosophy at Istanbul University. Before entering cinema he worked in trade, briefly published a magazine called Türk Yolu, and then founded his own film company; he wrote screenplays under the pen name Hüseyin Kazasfil while directing under his own name. Over a 55-year career he became closely identified with landowner and mafia-boss types in Yeşilçam films and was remembered as one of its most memorable villain actors, frequently appearing opposite Cüneyt Arkın. One of his rare turns as a good character came in the 1975 film Babanın Oğlu, again starring Arkın, in which he played "İmam Hüseyin." In film circles he was also known as a producer who reinvested his acting earnings into projects he directed himself.
