The Man Who Saved the World (Dünyayı Kurtaran Adam) (translated)
The Man Who Saved the World is a 1982 Turkish science fiction and adventure film directed by Çetin İnanç and starring actor and martial artist Cüneyt Arkın. Produced by Anıt Film and released in Turkey in November 1982, it is part of a wave of low-budget Turkish superhero films, blending science fiction themes with martial arts action closer to 1970s Hong Kong cinema than to Hollywood space operas.
The story follows two Turkish pilots, Murat and Ali, whose spaceship is pulled down onto a desolate planet, where they battle a centuries-old sorcerer plotting to conquer Earth and his creatures. The cast includes Aytekin Akkaya, Necla Fide, Hüseyin Peyda, Hikmet Taşdemir and Aydın Haberdar. Known abroad as "Turkish Star Wars" for its unauthorized use of footage and music from Star Wars and other films, it was harshly panned by critics but gradually gained a worldwide cult following, and a sequel titled Dünyayı Kurtaran Adam'ın Oğlu was made in 2006.
