Joseph and Canaan (Yusuf ile Kenan) (translated)

Directed by Ömer Kavur, Yusuf ile Kenan is a 1979 Turkish drama written by Kavur together with Onat Kutlar. A co-production of Çağdaş Araştırma Grubu and Alfa Film shot in color on 35 mm, the film drew international attention and won numerous awards, including the Grand Prize at the Milan Film Festival.

The story follows two brothers, Yusuf and Kenan, whose father is killed before their eyes in a blood feud. Fleeing to Istanbul to find their uncle Ali, they fail to locate him and end up surviving in poverty on the streets, where they cross paths with a child gang. The elder Yusuf becomes the gang leader's right-hand man in illegal dealings, while young Kenan insists on earning an honest living. Cem Davran and Tamer Çeliker star as the brothers, with Hakan Tanfer, Yalçın Avşar and Şevket Avşar also in the cast.
