Should the Wind Drop
Should the Wind Drop (original French title: Si le vent tombe) is a 2020 drama film written and directed by Nora Martirosyan, a co-production between France, Armenia and Belgium, backed by Sister Productions, Kwassa Films and Aneva. It follows Alain, a young international auditor based in France, who is assigned to assess whether the airport in the unrecognized Artsakh Republic in the Caucasus can be reopened. While carrying out the inspection, Alain meets a local boy named Edgar, and the bonds he forms with the child and the region's residents lead him to risk everything to approve the airport's reopening. Grégoire Colin and Hayk Bakhryan star.
The film was selected for the official competition of the 2020 Cannes Film Festival as well as the ACID selection, making it the only film in the festival's history to receive this double selection. It went on to screen at the Angoulême Francophone Film Festival, in the Industry Selects strand of the Toronto International Film Festival, and in competition at Tokyo Filmex. Armenia submitted it as its entry for Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.
