The Pomegranate (Nar)

Nar is a 2011 Turkish drama film written and directed by Ümit Ünal. Shot in just fifteen days, it premiered on December 23, 2011 and remained in theaters for ten weeks. The story follows a woman pursuing her own sense of justice, as the lives of four people of different faiths intersect inside a single house over the course of barely half a day.

Ünal describes people as seeds of one whole pomegranate: alike yet different, scattering in every direction once the bonds holding them together crack open like the fruit's skin. Alongside Düş Gezginleri and İki Genç Kız, it is counted among the few Turkish films to center lesbian female characters. The leading roles are played by Serra Yılmaz, Erdem Akakçe, İdil Fırat, and İrem Altuğ.
