Osman F. Seden directed Devlerin Aşkı (Love of the Giants), a 1976 Yeşilçam film with romantic, dramatic and action elements, from a screenplay by Bülent Oran. It reunites Türkân Şoray and Kadir İnanır and tells of a love, a third person who comes between the lovers, and the jealousy that follows. Produced by İrfan Ünal and Hasan Gürkan for Akün Film, the colour film runs 80 minutes.

A wealthy businessman, Süreyya Bey, is targeted by his rivals, and a young man named Tarık saves his life. To repay the debt, Süreyya Bey persuades Tarık to work for him and in time makes him his right-hand man. But the woman Süreyya has fallen for is Türkan, Tarık's former lover, whom he has never forgotten. Two friends are set against each other over a woman, and events take a different turn. Kadir İnanır plays Tarık, Türkân Şoray plays Türkan and Savaş Başar plays Süreyya Bey.

Elif Pektaş, Tevfik Şen, İlhan Hemşeri, Dündar Aydınlı and Zülfükar Öner are also in the cast, and Seden appears as Avni Çarmıklı. Cahit Berkay composed the music and Erdoğan Engin was the cinematographer. In the dubbing, Nevin Akkaya voices Şoray and Pekcan Koşar voices İnanır.

Through different eyes

Yeşilçam Nostalgic A viewer raised on the classics, looking for warm storytelling and strong acting.

For audiences of the time, seeing Türkân Şoray and Kadir İnanır in the same frame was an invitation in itself, and Love of the Giants is built on that reunion. Bülent Oran wrote it and Cahit Berkay scored it, names that recall the familiar craft of Yeşilçam's most prolific years. As was customary then, the voices are dubbed, with Nevin Akkaya speaking for Şoray and Pekcan Koşar for İnanır. That soundscape may seem strange to today's ears, but for anyone raised on those screens it is an inseparable part of the film's warmth.

Cinephile Looks at script, editing and directing choices; keeps a distance from formula films.

Love of the Giants blends Yeşilçam's beloved love-triangle formula with action elements: a life saved, a grateful boss and a woman caught between two men. The setup works; the pull between Tarık's debt to Süreyya Bey and his unforgotten love for Türkan is a strong dramatic knot. Yet the effort to fit romance, drama and action into a short running time seems to leave little room for the characters' inner lives, and events tend to move on fate and coincidence rather than psychology. That was common under the fast production conditions of the era. Director Osman F. Seden stepping in front of the camera in a role is an interesting detail.

Family Viewer Asks whether the whole household can watch it; cares about humour and heart.

A love triangle and a story of jealousy, plus an attempt on a businessman's life. So it is not for very young children, but it suits a Yeşilçam evening with the grandparents. Teenagers could get to know Türkân Şoray and Kadir İnanır through this film. The emotional, dramatic style of the period may feel heavy to today's kids, so it takes a little patience.
