Şafak Sezer — Biography

Erol Şafak Sezer is a Turkish actor, screenwriter and director known mainly for comedic roles. Born on 10 October 1970 in the Sincan district of Ankara, he made his stage debut in 1989 in Haldun Taner's Eşeğin Gölgesinde at Ankara Halk Tiyatrosu and also performed at Ankara Ekin Tiyatrosu. In the 1990s he built a following through stand-up shows and series such as Sıdıka and Baskül Ailesi, and won wider recognition after winning the game show İner misin Çıkar mısın?, hosted by Boran Kaya. In film, after playing Deli Veli in Vizontele and Kuna in G.O.R.A., he became a comedy icon playing Ercüment in the Hababam Sınıfı series, Tezcan in the Maskeli Beşler films and the fake priest Fikret in Kutsal Damacana. Writing and directing the Kolpaçino series, in which he also starred as Özgür, marked another turning point in his career, continuing through Kolpaçino 4 4'lük in 2023. On television he was praised for playing Aslan Kıral in Alemin Kıralı and Erman Kuzu in Türk Malı. In 2012 he was found guilty of assaulting a camera assistant and received a prison sentence in 2013; that same year he apologized to Prime Minister Erdoğan for supporting the Gezi Park protests. In 2026, after twenty years away, he returned to the stage in the play Karanlıkta Kumpas and continued in film with Ketenpere: Dalavere.
