Engin Altan Düzyatan — Biography

Engin Altan Düzyatan was born on July 26, 1979, in the Karşıyaka district of İzmir. He was introduced to theater in high school and went on to study at the Theater Department of Dokuz Eylül University; after moving to Istanbul he performed with the Kenter and DOT stage companies and later directed a play in Diyarbakır.

He began his television career in the early 2000s, appearing in series such as Koçum Benim, Sevgili Dünürüm, Bir Bulut Olsam, Kapalıçarşı, Son and Cinayet. In film, he starred in Romantik Komedi and its sequel, as well as Anadolu Kartalları, Bu Son Olsun, Bu İşte Bir Yalnızlık Var, New York'ta Beş Minare and Bir Avuç Deniz, winning Best Actor at the Los Angeles Movie Awards for the latter.

His lead role as Ertuğrul Bey in Diriliş: Ertuğrul, which began in 2014 and ran for years on TRT, turned him into a global star recognized far beyond Turkey; he has been included on The Muslim 500 list since 2021. He went on to play Oruç Reis in Barbaros: Akdeniz'in Kılıcı (2021) and Mehmet in Babamın Kemanı (2022). Married to Neslişah Alkoçlar and involved in environmental-awareness projects with the Cemre Foundation, he returned to the big screen in 2026 as the lead of the film Maslow'un İhtiyaçlar Hiyerarşisi.
