Valérie Lemercier — Biography

Born on March 9, 1964, in Dieppe, Valérie Lemercier trained at the Conservatoire de Rouen before building a wide-ranging career in French film, theatre and music as an actress, director, screenwriter and singer; she is married to musician Bertrand Burgalat.

She became widely known through her performance in the 1993 hit 'Les Visiteurs', and went on to appear in popular comedies such as the 'Astérix et Obélix' films, the 'Little Nicholas' series, 'Neuilly sa mère!' and 'Agathe Cléry'. Over her career she has won the César Award three times (Best Supporting Actress in 1994 and 2007, Best Actress in 2022) and received three Molière Awards for her solo stage shows.

Also an accomplished director, Lemercier has written and directed a string of her own films starting with 'Quadrille' (1997); the last of these, 'Aline' (2021), a fictionalized story inspired by the life of Céline Dion, earned her the 2022 César Award for Best Actress.
