Asterix and Obelix: God Save Britannia (Asteriks ve Oburiks Gizli Görevde)

Movie · 2012 · 2 people

Directed by Laurent Tirard, this 2012 French fantasy comedy is the fourth live-action film drawn from the Asterix comic books. Its story blends the albums Asterix in Britain and Asterix and the Normans, and it brought the series to cinemas in 3D for the first time.

The action unfolds in 50 BC: Julius Caesar, backed by his mighty legions, resolves to seize Britain, the island at the edge of the known world. The conquest proves swift, yet one small British village refuses to surrender. Queen Cordelia dispatches her most trusted man, Jolitorax, across the Channel to ask for help from the celebrated Gaulish village that still holds out against Rome. The Gauls hand over a barrel of magic potion and send Asterix and Obelix to accompany him. Already busy training the chief's good-for-nothing nephew, the pair take the young man along so he can finish his education, though nothing on the trip goes according to plan.

Gérard Depardieu portrays Obelix for the fourth and final time, while Édouard Baer steps into the role of Asterix. Catherine Deneuve, Valérie Lemercier, Fabrice Luchini and Dany Boon also appear. The film opened in theatres in October 2012.
