Hope Street (Umut Sokağı) (translated)

Umut Sokağı (Hope Street) is a Turkish film directed by Şerif Gören and released in 1987. Classified as a mafia film, it stars Kadir İnanır and Bülent Bilgiç and unfolds in the back streets of Istanbul, around the Kadırga neighborhood.

At the center of the story stands Ali Silvan, played by Kadir İnanır. After killing a man in a fight, Ali's audacity propels him into the ranks of the underworld's leading figures, and he cements his position by eliminating a rival mafia boss. When the woman he loves is to be married off to someone else, he storms the wedding and marries her himself — an act that sums up his habit of living by his own rules.

The story's second axis is Bülent, a young man Ali takes under his wing. Entrusted with managing all of Ali's money, Bülent rises rapidly, and his ambition eventually extends toward running the country. When his ascent collides with his protector's interests, an inevitable reckoning begins between the two men.
