The Marchers

The Marchers (original title: La Marche) is a 2013 French-Belgian comedy-drama film written and directed by Nabil Ben Yadir. It offers a fictionalized retelling of the 1983 March for Equality and Against Racism in France, and its November 2013 release coincided with the thirtieth anniversary of that historic event.

The story follows Mohamed, a young man who survives a police shooting and rejects calls for violent retaliation, instead embracing peaceful action inspired by Martin Luther King and Mahatma Gandhi, setting out with friends on a march from Marseille to Paris. Produced by EuropaCorp, the 120-minute film features Hafsia Herzi, Lubna Azabal, and Rufus, and was shot in French and Arabic. The film was considered a critical and commercial failure; while some participants of the original march felt it captured the movement's spirit, others argued its political dimension had been downplayed.
