Rufus — Biography
Jacques Narcy, professionally known as Rufus, is a French actor and comedian born on 19 December 1942 in Riom. He began appearing in films in the late 1960s and built one of French cinema's most prolific character-acting careers, working steadily across five decades. International audiences recognize him chiefly from Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Amélie, where he played Raphaël Poulain, the withdrawn father of the title character. Earlier he appeared in Roman Polanski's The Tenant and in Radu Mihaileanu's Holocaust-era tragicomedy Train of Life. Narcy also worked with directors such as Claude Lelouch, Jean-Luc Godard and Jules Dassin, and he received a César award nomination during his career. Beyond film he performed on stage and helped popularize the café-théâtre comedy scene of the 1970s. France later honored him as a Commandeur des Arts et des Lettres and a Commander of the National Order of Merit.
