Iznogoud

Iznogoud is a 2005 French comedy directed by Patrick Braoudé, adapted from the comic book series of the same name by René Goscinny and Jean Tabary. Set in Baghdad in the era of the Arabian Nights, the story takes place at the court of the good-natured but rather dim-witted Caliph Haroun El Poussah. His Grand Vizier Iznogoud is consumed by a single obsession: to become caliph in the caliph's place. Aided by his right-hand man Dilat Larath, whose schemes invariably end badly, the vizier devises plot after plot to seize the throne, only to see each one backfire on him in ever more ridiculous ways. Michaël Youn stars as the scheming vizier, with Jacques Villeret as the caliph, alongside Elsa Pataky and Franck Dubosc. Iznogoud is among the most beloved comic characters created by Goscinny, the writer also known for Asterix and Lucky Luke.
