The Stone School (Taş Mektep) (translated)

Taş Mektep is a 2013 Turkish drama film based on a screenplay by Yılmaz Karakoyunlu. Set during the Turkish War of Independence, it follows the senior students of Kayseri High School who abandon their studies to join the fighting, sixty-three of whom lose their lives in the Battle of Sakarya.

Headlined by Orhan Kılıç, Ayça Varlıer and Feride Çetin, the picture opened in cinemas on 15 February 2013. Shooting took place in Istanbul and Manisa, and to recreate the era a full-scale replica of the stone school was erected on the Beykoz studio lots. The Turkish and Greek uniforms used in the combat sequences were reproduced faithfully from originals, while the score was performed by the Prague Symphony Orchestra.
