Salad by the Roots

Salad by the Roots (original French title: Des pissenlits par la racine, a French idiom roughly meaning "pushing up the daisies") is a 1964 Franco-Italian black comedy directed by Georges Lautner, made a year after his hit Les Tontons flingueurs, which was likewise set in the Parisian underworld. The film adapts Clarence Weff's 1962 novel Y'avait un macchabée and also functions as a parody of Jean Negulesco's 1946 American film noir Three Strangers, revolving around the hunt for a winning race ticket. The screenplay was written by Lautner with Clarence Weff and Albert Kantof, while the celebrated dialogue is by Michel Audiard, famed for his razor-sharp lines. Georges Delerue composed the score. The cast is headed by Michel Serrault, Louis de Funès and Mireille Darc. The picture opened in French cinemas on 6 May 1964.
