Önce Vatan is a 1974 Turkish feature that blends battlefield action with melodrama, directed by Duygu Sağıroğlu from his own screenplay. The story takes place during the Turkish landing on Cyprus and centers on Commander Yavuz, an officer dispatched to the island, who falls in love with Zeynep, a young Cypriot woman. Cüneyt Arkın plays the officer and Fatma Girik the woman he loves, their relationship unfolding against the clashes raging around the Pentadaktylos mountains, complete with commandos, tanks and paratroopers. Produced by Memduh Ün for Uğur Film and photographed by Erdoğan Engin, the color picture runs about 89 minutes. The supporting ensemble includes Ceyda Karahan, Reha Yurdakul and Süheyl Eğriboz. A characteristic Yeşilçam production of its era, the film opened in Turkish theaters in March 1975.
